Chapter 10

She knew that she was skating on thin ice, but she took the risk of inviting him on a dinner date at her house anyway. Nothing beats a failure but a try. Nothing.

“I really appreciate you joining me this evening. Thank you,” she told him seductively.

Harris took in Avionne’s short and tight white dress that hugged her curves and smoky eyed makeup. The way she was being nice to him made him wonder what had changed in their relationship so to speak.

He knew she was up to something. He always felt that way around her, as if she was constantly trying to get over all the time.

“My pleasure,” Harris said as the dinner that she prepared lay before them on the dinner table.

“I hope that you brought your appetite, because I’m ready to feed you.”

“Is that so?” Harrison looked at her suspiciously. “What’s with the new change of heart?” he asked her.

“I just want to do something nice for you.” She smiled over at him. “Is that so bad? I mean is that a crime?”

“Of course not. It just seems out of the ordinary for you,” Harris told her she, as she prepared their plates for dinner. “Last time I saw you, you stomped out on me at dinner.”

“Oh come now. Let that go. You knew that one day we would eventually end up here.”

“And where is here exactly?” Harris inquired.

“You at my place, like this. You know you wanted me since you first laid eyes on me on my doorstep. I saw the way that you admired my body. And when my nipples got hard the way you wanted to suck on them,” her voice was low and seductive. “I know you want me Harris, you don’t have to fake it. It does put you in an awkward situation however. A detective falling for the woman that he suspects of murder.” She turned sympathetic eyes on him. “What is a man to do?”

Harris was shocked. “I never suspected that you were a murderer. I just wanted to know more about you and your mom. Touch base on some things.”

“Oh come now, Harris. You’re a bad liar. To be such a recognized and honored detective that you are. I expected more from you.”

Harris wisely said nothing as he continued to regard Avionne, waiting to hear what it was that she was going to say next.

“Of course I did my research on you Harris. I needed to know who were and where you came from. Everyone that enters my world is subject to a thorough background investigation. You must understand that and come to know that it’s just how I am.”

Harris remained silent, as he made sure that the safety was off of his gun just in case he was prompted to use it.

“And guess what I found out?” Avionne continued as she took the knife in her hand and sliced into the lamb chop that she had prepared for their dinner. “I found out that you used to be married, but you’re not now.
